A Conversation with Marc Benioff
Kirkpatrick: Marc Benioff is our closing guest, somebody who I’ve known for a fairly long time. Long enough that he didn’t have any hesitation, somewhat like Weiner only more so, yesterday, telling me how I need to conduct the interview. Not asking me how I thought I should—but he did sort of ask me that, but then he told me. So he wanted me to put my questions away, because I know him too well to have anything written down, which is fair enough. And I was telling Marc that— Benioff: And the one person you didn’t thank was yourself, so how about giving David a round of applause for putting together a great conference? [APPLAUSE] Kirkpatrick: Well, you know, I appreciate that, Marc, and I said in one of the things I wrote in advance of the conference that it was kind of apt to end with you, because you’ve been so supportive of Techonomy from the beginning and given me some extremely good advice on a number of occasions. And I guess maybe that’s something I wouldn’t mind, not talking about that exactly, but you have really always seemed to understand why we wanted to do Techonomy, which was to advance the collective understanding of business in particular, but government— Benioff: I didn’t really understand until you told me backstage why we do this.
